That’s what I would like to be — the Batman of knowledge. To transcend, no, transform, transmute myself through commitment to an ideal; to discover my own capacity as a human being to be a force of change in the lives of others. I’m no caped crusader, fighting crime in a guerrilla crusade in the gutters and alleys of the world. Nor do I think I’m fit for law or politics: I’m too intellectual to be elected, for one thing; and I can’t envision myself stomaching (or surviving) the gritty gauntlet of the courtroom or Congress.  Instead, my fight will be in the classroom and the public forum, with words and the truth of the past.

My inner compass is pointing me toward the life of a scholar, saying to me, “There you will find what you are meant to be,” or, “In that direction you will come upon the marker leading you to the next step in your journey.”  I do believe history is part of my calling, and that through history I can help the day-to-day lives of my fellow human beings.

Imagine a world in which Islamic Shariah didn’t exist — no more burqas, no more jihad — because it was all found to be historically baseless, junk, the fruit of mad, sick men’s insecurity and twisted imaginations.  Imagine a world in which the whole ideal of fundamentalism was dashed, exposed as intricate assembliages of oppression built upon fearful and angry fools’ attempts to cookie-cutter human existence into neat discreet patterns.  Imagine a world in which people learned from the past and evolved.  To quote Maynard James Keenan:

No evil, save blind faith, ignorance,
And the desire for the unprepared
To blame others for the devastation
Left in the wake of change

Change, my child
Change is in the heavens
Change is on this earth
Change is all around us

And if we
Are reflections of the divine
We must roll with these changes,
For we are these changes.

Well, with the uploading of my samples page, the renovations to my website are nearly complete. All that’s left to do is some tinkering here and there. I can’t wait to hear everyone’s feedback!
